KEITH HOWARD: Creative Intaglio-Type using ImagOn
May 28 - June 1
Registration: $549.00: 5 Days
Deposit: $100.00 to reserve a space
General Studio fee: $100.00
Keith will bring hours of extensive knowledge of safer intaglio processes and his inventive spirit to the workshop. Each participant can expect to direct what they do in their hands-on application of ImagOn techniques, including photo etching and hand etching techniques. Experienced printmakers who have a good level of understanding and experience with traditional etching techniques will get straight to the heart of the safe etching and Intaglio-Type printmaking. Those new to intaglio will be thrilled with the quick results and image-making potential that Intaglio-Type has to offer. And with the addition of digital compatibility, the range of mark making is huge.
ImagOn Ultra and Intaglio-Type are among the foremost answers to intaglio printmaking in terms of artistic expression, contemporary aesthetics, cost, safer and cleaner process, versatility and user friendliness. Because ImagOn Ultra and Pro come in rolls it can be laminated to a vast variety of plate making materials giving artist-printmakers the combined benefits of ImagOn Ultra's image creating capabilities with the effects of flat or textured substrate materials like wood, metal or synthetics. This process has a proven success record with newly developed waterbased intaglio inks and is very open to aesthetic exploration and process experimentation.
Keith Howard is Head of Printmaking and Research at Rochester Institute of Technology.

HUGH BRYDEN: ENCHANTED DRYPOINT
June 1-3
Registration: $299.00: 3 Days
Deposit: $100.00 to reserve a space
General Studio fee: $ 95.00
Begining at 3:00 PM Friday afternoon, June 1, particpants will meet, talk, share information, learn a few things from Hugh Bryden, and get readied for two full days of field trips in to New Mexico's enchanted landscape. As Hugh puts it, "the key to things about this drypoint method is the simplicity -no chemical processes or sophisticated equipment and it can be done out on site. The educational benefits are considerable, it is a perfect introduction to intaglio, the materials are inexpensive and completely safe. The method itself I have found over the years is accessible to pupils of all ages and really develops drawing skills and linear interpretation as well as giving important insights into colour mixing. I think the combination of the Uber press and the Akua inks makes for a great opportunity to make fresh , immediate prints on location and that really excites me."
Using portable printing presses, this workshop will take field trips for inspiration in and aound Santa Fe, The Land of Enchantment. Once on site, you will get to work with Scotish printmaker Hugh Brydent and discover the ease and beauty of his well developed 4 color drypoint process. The results will belie the simplicity and speed at which you will get from drypoint drawings on plate material to finished prints. With the latest Akua intaglio inks, the new 42lbs highly innovative portable Uber Press it is possible to have all you need right there with you on site.

KEITH HOWARD: 4-COLOR INVERSION INTAGLIOTYPE
June 4-8
Registration: $549.00: 5 Days
Deposit: $100.00 to reserve a space
General Studio fee: $105.00
This 4-color workshop offers an alternative for printmakers who want to create full color intaglio prints and for those photographers who enjoy experimenting with different techniques.
The workshop is designed to give students the ability to create images using 4 color ImagOn plates. Computer generated originals are printed out on separate transparencies, registered, and printed in sequence to produce a full tonal range of tones and colors. Individual experimenting with this process will be encouraged. The process also uses Rostow & Jung's water-based intaglio inks and in doing so, makes it possible to ink-up, wipe, and print in a fast, efficient and safe method.
